Seven medals from Cyprus

Tereza is finishing her 3 week stay in Cyprus. A press conference awaits her in Prague as soon as she lands back home and then she will once again travel, this time to Italy. In Italy she will train and participate in road and bike races. After the three weeks spent in Limasol she knows the surroundings perfectly, together she rode in 5 races and the worst medal she took was the bronze. She won the road time trial, three times took the silver medal position and once finished in third place. She became the best biker of the Afxentia Cup and took third place in the overall Sunshine Cup 2008 standings. She managed all of this on her new bike, new tires and in a new jersey. A very nice start of the season, which she will hopefully finish with the Olympic Games.

This afternoon Tereza finalized her Sunshine Cup race series in Cyprus with another race of the C1 category. Tereza had a flat tire right in the first round of the race. “I wanted to pass Henzi on the track so I chose the shorter path, but I got a flat tire on the rocks and thorns,” described Tereza the main moment of the race. She had to run with the bike to the tech zone and change her wheel, which culminated to a loss of 7 minutes on the leading riders. “After this first lap run my legs were hard as rocks and I couldn’t get back into the rhythm after getting back on my bike.” Her boyfriend, mechanic and masseur all in one changed her wheel. Tereza didn’t give up and managed to catch up on her loss. She managed to get on the podium in the last few meters of the race. 1. Petra Henzi, 2. Adelheid Morath, 3. Tereza.

A week earlier in a race in Vorokolini she won a silver medal, this time she wasnt beaten by Sabine Spitz, but by the Swiss representative Petra Henzi. Tereza was very active in the race right from the start and got into the lead right in the first lap. Sabine Spitz was catching on, however she fell in one of the downhill parts and had to be transported to the hospital. Soon Henzi came breathing down on Tereza’s back. “She always passed me in the uphill sections and I caught on in the downhill and that’s how it was during most of the race,” said Tereza about the race. The last lap downhill section was the crucial one for the race. Tereza was catching up but in the end her pedal hit a rock and Tereza went flying over her bike. “I thought I got back on my bike quite quickly, but Elisabeth Osl managed to pass me.“ Tereza, however, didn’t want a bronze medal and managed to pass her Austrian friend, but there was no time to pass the Swiss. She finished the race in second place with a 38 second loss behind Petra Henzi and with a 2 second lead on the Austrian.
