Tereza Huríková — member of the Ceská sporitelna MTB team
Born: February 11th, 1987, Vimperk, Czech republic
Coach: Jirí Lutovský
Tereza started her career first as a cross country skier in her home town Ski Club Vimperk, where she started to systematically train and race for the first time. Tereza’s both parents are gym masters with a degree from the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education in Prague, therefore they were able to provide her with the basic needs for the start of her sports career.
Tereza’s first race in the spring of 1999 was in the category of Young Schoolgirl in the Vimperk MTB league cup where she finished second.
In the same year Tereza raced in her first Czech MTB Cup race in Zadov and in her category finished also second.
In the year 2000 the Vimperk Youth Sports Center has been set up by the Czech Cycling Federation and Tereza was chosen to attend as a young talent. During this year she raced in the Older Schoolgirl category and managed to finish in sixth place at the Czech MTB Cup in Kutná Hora. In the next Czech MTB Cup race in Zadov she finished in first place and in the same year she won at the Czech MTB Championships and the entire Czech MTB Cup.
In upcoming two years she won almost all races she had attended in her category of Cadets. In 2002 she raced in her first big international race - European Championship in Zürich and as a Cadet in Junior category she finished nineth.
She gave a first notice about herself in 2003 at European Champinship in Graz where she finished as a second Juniorwomen. Since then she had started to race both on mountainbike and road. So far her best results are titules of World Champion in Road Time Trial in 2004 and World Champion in MTB cross country in 2005.
Tereza lives with her parents in the small city of Vimperk in the south part of Czech republic. Although she is attending Vimperk's High school she has decided to put her studies aside. She is concentrating at only one goal: "I wish I was a world class mountainbiker and that I could fight for the olympic medals," in her own words.
She follows two mottos: "One can get used to everything" and "The head is stronger than all the body muscles"
